Local Newspapers and the Future of Democracy

Local Newspapers and the Future of Democracy

Sunday, July 6 at 3 PM

Celebrate Independence Day weekend with a talk by Ed Miller, editor and co-founder of the Provincetown Independent.

When Congress created the U.S. Postal Service, it made a special provision for local newspapers to be delivered at little or no cost. The founders of the country understood that informed citizens and a vigorous independent press were fundamental to a democratic society.

Ed Miller, editor of the Provincetown Independent, founded in 2019 and the New England Newspaper and Press Association’s 2024 Newspaper of the Year, will talk about the current state of journalism on Cape Cod and in the nation at large and the reasons why the survival of small newspapers is connected to the future of democracy in the United States.

This is a free event with seating limited to 30. RSVP by sending an email with the names of those in your party to: homeport@davidhillsgallery.com
