Agnes Mittermayr and Holly Plaisted have been working together in the eelgrass meadows of outer Cape Cod for 15 years and want to share their knowledge of this critical habitat, the state of it in each outer Cape region, and anything else the community would like to know about eelgrass and seagrasses of the world! Agnes is a benthic ecologist for the Center for Coastal Studies and the director of SeagrassNet (https://www.seagrassnet.org/), a global network building scientific understanding to better and more effectively conserve, restore, and raise awareness of seagrasses worldwide. Learn moreA Year in the Life of Wellfleet Oysters: The State of Things
Thursday, August 14, at 7 p.m Come hear everything below the surface that a lay person needs to know about the beloved Outer Cape bivalves. Wellfleet Shellfish Constable Nancy Civetta demystifies this important local industry. Nancy Civetta grew up (as a wash-a-shore) in Wellfleet, which boasts a vibrant wild shellfishery and more than 120 productive shellfish farms, making the town number one in the state for the value of its shellfish landings. She is familiar with challenges the fishing industry faces and is interested in finding solutions to keep fishermen in business. She has learned the most from fishermen she has collaborated with through the years. She has been the Wellfleet Shellfish Constable for eight years and feels a tremendous responsibility to uphold Wellfleet’s brand name in the world and to preserve a sustainable shellfishery for generations to come. She loves to swim, cook and eat, not necessarily in that order. Snacks and treats will be provided! Event held at David Hills Gallery57 Route 6A, Orleans (next to the Double Dragon)
